Accessibility statement
How the website is adapted for people with disabilities, dyslexia or attention difficulties, what is not yet accessible, and how to report a barrier. Updated 6 November 2026.
Our commitment
The Colonel J. Vitkus-Kazimieraitis Memorial Society, which runs kazimieraitis.lt, wants the story of Juozas Vitkus-Kazimieraitis to be available to everyone: people with visual, hearing or mobility impairments, readers with dyslexia, people with attention difficulties (ADHD), older visitors and those browsing on a phone.
This statement applies to the whole kazimieraitis.lt website – both the Lithuanian and the English version. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA (European standard EN 301 549).
Compliance status
The website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA. The main pages – home, history, places, archive, schools, museum and society – showed no errors when tested. Some content is not yet accessible; it is listed under “What is not yet accessible”.
How to adjust reading for yourself
At the top of every page, next to the LT/EN language switch, there is an accessibility icon – a yellow circle with a human figure (on phones, next to the “Menu” button). Click it to choose:
- Visibility: text size (standard, larger or largest) and high contrast – black or white text, underlined links; greyscale – the whole site is shown without colour, in shades of grey (for example, for colour vision deficiency or colour sensitivity).
- Reading:
- Easier-to-read font – a dyslexia-friendly font (Atkinson Hyperlegible), no capitals in headings.
- Wider spacing – more space between lines, words and letters.
- Reading ruler – highlights the line you are reading and dims the rest of the screen to help you focus (ADHD).
- Highlight links – underlines every link and outlines buttons.
- Navigation and motion:
- Stop animations – stops animations and moving effects.
- Large cursor – a bigger, easier-to-see mouse pointer (on computers).
Your choices are saved in your browser and apply to every page; they are not sent anywhere else. You can reset them at any time with “Reset all”.
Browser tools work too: you can zoom the page up to 200% (Ctrl and + or ⌘ and +) and navigate with the keyboard only (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter); the first Tab press reveals a “Skip to content” link. The website respects your operating system’s “reduce motion” setting.
What we have done
- The language of each page is set (Lithuanian or English), so screen readers pronounce words correctly.
- All photographs have text descriptions: who or what is shown, when, where and from which archive.
- Pages are structured with headings; long texts have a table of chapters and reading time.
- Text contrast is at least 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text). It is ensured by the site’s stylesheets (CSS), so it holds even with JavaScript turned off.
- Old website pages have been removed, and their addresses redirect to the matching new pages. All news items are shown in the new design and are translated in the English version.
- Links within text are underlined, so they are not distinguished by colour alone.
- All controls can be reached with the keyboard, and focus is clearly visible.
- Videos never play automatically; the player opens only when you choose.
- The places marked on maps are also listed in text – in the list of places and on each place’s page.
- In the English version, links to Lithuanian-language content are marked “(LT)”.
What is not yet accessible
- Archive document PDFs are scans of originals (handwritten and typed, some in Russian). They have no text layer, so screen readers cannot read them. The content of each document is summarised on the “Documents” page; write to us and we will send a text transcript.
- Videos are hosted on YouTube and LRT. Most have no subtitles or audio description, and these features are controlled by the platform owners. All videos are in Lithuanian.
- Teaching materials for schools (PowerPoint and PDF files, in Lithuanian) have not yet been checked separately for accessibility.
- Maps are graphic diagrams; the same information is provided in text.
- External websites we link to (LRT Epika, Scribd, virtual exhibitions, Facebook) are not under our control.
How we assessed the website
This statement was prepared on 6 November 2026. The assessment was a self-assessment: an automated check with axe-core 4.10 (WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules) on all 101 Lithuanian and English pages of the site and the news views, and a manual check – keyboard navigation, zoom and phone screens.
We will review this statement at least once a year and after major changes to the website.
Report a barrier
If you cannot access or read any content, write to info@kazimieraitis.lt or call +370 687 96243. Tell us the page and what you were trying to do. We aim to reply within 10 working days and, if needed, to provide the information in another format – for example, a text transcript of a document.
