Memory cannot be erased.
In Leipalingis, at Dzūkų g. 15, stands the former NKVD headquarters, the “stribynas”. Kazimieraitis’s remains were found in its yard. On 21 October 2026, exactly three years after the state funeral, the Vitkus family bought the building. We are now creating a Museum of the Freedom Fights here.

Dzūkų g. 15, Leipalingis
The former NKVD headquarters, the “stribynas”. By the wall stands a memorial stone inscribed: “In this house, in 1944–1953, fighters for Lithuania’s freedom were imprisoned and tortured”. In October 2022 the remains of Juozas Vitkus-Kazimieraitis were found in the yard of this building. The Kazimieraitis Museum is being created here.
